Future directions? Extra content, expansions, editor etc.
What are the future directions for Unity of Command regarding extra content, new campaigns, expansions, a scenario editor and suchlike?

We will be making new campaigns, most probably in the form of DLCs.
There will also be upgrades to the base game. We fixed no roadmap for that yet, but ideas include improved MP support, single-action undo and other goodies mentioned in the forums.
Scenario editor will be made available eventually, but it's not in a working state at this time even for our internal purposes.
This will all take time, so please bear with us... we'll get there

I will look forward to future developments.
How would the game play out in a general versus mode (single-player)? With two armies placed at either side of a freshly-created map with some starting prestige points to buy units and perhaps point-giving objective hexes on the map?

We discussed this a little bit. Essentially you are talking about a random skirmish generator... our conclusion was that it is possible to create one, but it's hard to say whether generated scenarios would be fun to play. Frankly, it can turn out that we do our best with the code, and the scenarios still come out hit-and-miss in that respect.

I haven't tried the multiplayer yet but I'm sure multiplayer skirmish style, where the player buys and deploys the units on balanced maps would be fun.

Um yes, just to make clear I was referring to both SP and MP... creating a random scenario that is also fun to play may turn out to be really difficult for this system, we just don't know.
We do hope to release the scenario editor eventually, so community created scenarios could serve instead.

I am not convinced that a random/picked system would work well in this engine, since it is so focussed on what are effectively speed-runs. However, people who don't own the game have to be aware that you do get the option to place scheduled or bought reinforcements in-game (specialist like engineers or, in some scenarios, even whole extra units) and you can reorganise your units to a limited extent (to merge two small units into one large one or to move a specialist step from one to another, for example).
Re: Future directions? Extra content, expansions, editor etc
any hints on what other campaigns etc you are looking at? other eastern front campaigns are pretty self-evident, but any thoughts on branching out into western front, north africa, italy?
redoing the campaigns for BVs without "cheating" (i.e. reloading turn by turn), although obviously i'll reload from the scenario start if it's obvious i'm not getting a BV. drives me nuts that BVs are so dependent on large amounts of luck - two turns of mud is usually enough to scrub a BV attempt (obviously, appropriately so).

Hi,
One thing I would like is greater maps (and scenarios).
Most of the game scenarios have small maps and limited reinforcments.
What about a great campaing scenario but without linkables scenarios? I mean, a large map where you could start Case Blue and manage your forces to direct your own advances with some grand objectives as Stalingrad, Grozny, Baku or Asthrakan but all in one on the same game (scenario).
Other thing that I would like is an easy way to gain some prestige points within an scenario, b/c if you don't have any at the scenario start, you cant buy replacements without disbanding units.
My first suggestion is what I liked over all.

Hi gst,
the issue of large maps has been discussed many times. The game probably wouldn't work as well on the really big maps as it does for the current size. We need to add some rules etc to make this works. Stay tuned...
