I notice that towed specs (17/25 pounder) are active after crossing major river. This makes British infantry divisions very strong after crossing (4* armor shift + 12 defense). Is this intended? If so, what is the point of having amphibious specs like marines and DD Sherman?
After playing Plunder and Rhine et danube few times in hotseat mode, I find that the Germans can maintain their defensive line at Rhine for 4 to 5 turns because they can attack and destroy any US divisions crossed the river because they don't have any active M10s. However, I never see Ai doing that and they quick abandoned their defending positions.

Re: Twoed spec active after crossing major river
After crossing a major river: amphibious specialists (marines and DD Sherman) are active on your own turn, as opposed to towed arty and at which are only available for defense on the following enemy turn. So you can attack, once you are across, with your marines and DDs, while you can't do that with your towed specs.
You are making a good point about the Rhine crossing scenarios: it could be a good idea for the AI to attack bridgeheads, especially on higher difficulties. We'll see what's possible.
Cheers!
