Battle for Bavaria: OP defenders in Mannheim and Munich?

Struggling with Battle of Bavaria a lot (on normal!), and in a rather frustrating way, mostly because of the defenders in Mannheim and Munich. Both the cities are protected by 7-step Volksgrenadiers with a 88 mm FlaK step and two steps of entrenchment. And I don't see any reliable approach to killing these units except for cutting them off and starving them, which is not something you can do if you want to meet the deadlines.

I have been able to take Mannheim, but it always feels like a fluke: sometimes Suppressive Fire removes an entrenchment step (Set-Piece Attack is consistently useless), and then you might force the defenders to retreat, if you're lucky. Different combinations of specialist steps don't seem to be working.

Munich is the same, except it's in the far corner of the map, and by turn 9 (or even 12, if the battle isn't going too well), all you can muster there are a few tank units, against a defender with a uniquely powerful antitank and antiair combo.

Perhaps reducing the number of infantry steps in these units (in the vein of Frankfurt) may do the trick. Challenge is great, but not when it means sitting and rerolling dice again and again hoping you get all sixes.

Hey Hexaboo,

and good catch. I seem to have made a mistake in one of my updates during development and the scenario has reverted back to a "mid-balancing stage". So the balance is indeed off. Update on monday will fix this.

Cheers!

Came upon this thread while hunting for tips on the scenario, just letting you know that this doesn't appear to have been fixed; the offending defenders are still present and the scenario is only 12 turns while being listed as 13 on the map
