Multiplayer questions

Unread postby id3945 » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:10 pm

I haven't seen much about the multiplayer and have some questions:

1) What are the game options and available scenarios?

2) Do both players have to be online at the same time?

3) What if one player temporarily loses internet connection in the middle of a game? Is the game lost or can it be returned to later?

4) Can you play more than one game at the same time?

4) Are there plans to make a multiplayer lobby to find games?

All single player scenarios are available in multiplayer. However, one of the players has to be ok with playing the defensive role. In practice, our testers simply played two games of the same scenario, one from each side and then compared the result. Apparently it's a blast ;)

There are also dedicated MP scenarios. One is already included in the game, and three more are in the works. We will most probably be adding them in the update, as the MP takeup hasn't been all that huge so far.

The game "lives" on the server so you can disconnect and reconnect at will. Players don't need to be online at the same time - but of course it's more fun to play if they are.

We will certainly be adding more MP features in the future... it would help to see some more players already playing though. We can take cue from the way in which play, connect etc.

I found that many of the single-player missions, those in which the defender had some counter-attacking power and some room to manoeuvre, were actually very playable in multiplayer. We just ensured that we played one game as each side in the scenario and compared our individual scores at the end (generally, the attacker will win, but in the missions whose structure stretches the AI, a human defender will usually win).
