Is it possible to switch sides in single player?

Unread postby Batavian » Sat Jan 10, 2015 7:33 pm

Understand the scenarios are designed to be played one way...with the human player as attacker and AI as defender. Is there some way to switch the AI to control the attacked side and play as human defending?

Reason for asking is that it would be nice to develop strategies on defense should one desire to play the campaign. Or if one is playing a hotseat game.

It's not possible unfortunately, currently the only way to play the other side is to play against yourself in hotseat. You can do this with every scenario in all campaigns (provided you have the DLC they're in). If you have the Black Turn DLC you can try the last two scenarios, Lake Ladoga and especially Donbas Nip. In Donbas Nip Tomislav Uzelac (the lead designer of UoC) tried to get the AI on the offensive, it should be a good scenario for training defenses. In Ladoga you'll also have to defend.

Danielefc's

should be added to that list. Not necessarily "defensive" one (esp. with a pile of Baneblade-like units Germans have), but... let's say there's a lot of ways you can find yourself desperately scrambling for any meatshield.

(Fun tip: try not reading scenario description for the best experience ^^)

Having tried that, I still can't get anything better than normal victory. It really is one of the most challenging scenarios I've seen in the game... a good show of how capable the AI can be.
