False number on number of scenarios remaining for div

Unread postby produit » Wed May 13, 2020 3:50 pm

I played the new ahistorical campaign which is excellent. I still have to play the last mission.
The number of mission indicator on the div seems not to work perfectly since the last update. I know that it is perhaps a bit borderline, but I had the habit to disband the units that will no more be arriving in the future scenarios to have "free replacements". This did not work perfectly for me this time as the number seem to be false, especially on in the Italy campaign. In Road from Rimini, I disbanded a lot of units that had no number anymore, but they were reconstituted in Vienna and other scenarios.
Likewise, airborne div can come back through card playing, even if there was no number anymore.
Through a card, I was also able to paradrop a div with specialised steps (tanks, artillery, etc.) that I had in a previous scenario. It is perhaps a bit too much.
Excepting that, I really enjoy the new version of the campaign.

Started Unthinkable. Strange to capture Berlin completely in the previous scenario and have to recapture it now... I understand it would be difficult to start different versions of the scenario based on previously captured objectives.
It was also similar with Monte Cassino that I capture minimum 2 times...

Re: "number of missions indicator", the number is based on the assumption that you will not be switching campaign tracks in the future.

If you are currently on the historical track, the game calculates the number by assuming you will stay on the historical track and not take any of the what-if branches. It has to make some assumption, because it can't know what you will do in the future, obviously.

Also if you haven't already, check out the scenario chart for a concise view of how branching works in the campaign.

Cheers!

I saw it and really liked the graphical description of the campaign.
But my point remains, displaying a value that is not always true is really misleading, because it makes you take decisions based on a fact that becomes wrong. In my point of view, it is perhaps even worse than not showing anything...

Finished Unthinkable. Really impressive scenario. A lot of losses at the beginning, even if I was less stressed than during Herbstnebel.
Really nice.
Just a thought, was Unthinkable not a plan of a preventive strike by Allied and not a reaction to a Soviet invasion...

Just as a counter-point, it makes sense the number is only accurate if you follow the base campaign flow. I would rather have it remain knowing it will be off if I plan to do different things than removing it entirely. Having to make my own records of when units appear is far worse.
