Combat animations?

Unread postby frontovika » Sun Jun 13, 2021 7:24 pm

I am curious to know if it is possible to implement combat animations for the 3d models on the battlefield; similar to Hearts of Iron IV or Civilization? It's kind of neat to see the 3d models sprinting and firing a burst from their weapon every few seconds; or to see the tanks firing a shot and reloading etc. It would definitely add to the immersive experience on the battlefield.

The combat animation should ideally last from the start of an attack decision to the end of turn, or perhaps they could be playing while the 3d models are idling?

I understand the result of the battle is decided instantly with a single "explosive" effect, and is comparable to a game of chess, but I feel that the battlefield could be much more visceral and chaotic.

Short answer: no ;) If the engine could handle it (and that's a big if) then it would entail redoing all(!) the models and programming the whole thing as well. Easily a years worth of work for two people.

Cheers!
