Newbie playing blitzkrieg DLC

Unread postby the_flyingdutchman » Tue Nov 17, 2020 1:30 pm

I've waited for new DLC, and it was worthy of waiting.
I'm playing 'Fall Rot East' on easy now.

Polish Campaign
Danzig Corridor: Not so hard. Prepare some FH18s and be careful of polish cavalries. They always trying to disrupt supply.

Mlawa to Modlin: Keep your supply lines. And send your good infantry divs(with arty/eng)to storm Modlin and Warsaw.

The Polish Plain: One of hard scenario. Because of entrenched Poles and Huge map(HQ range is short to cover all front), I need to restart some times. Capture Katowice and Częstochowa quickly to manage your supply. Send your panzers to capture Bzura. The point is using PzDs to capture objects in enemy's rear. Use your infantries to capture Warsaw/ mop up Poles.

Norwegian Campaign
*Because of regimental-based missions, you will need to RETRIEVE your specialists after 'Tronheim'.
Wesertag: Use IR. 310 to capture Vinjesvingen while capturing supply route(there's a curve in the middle-Don't miss them!). Let airborne to capture Fornebu airfield. Because of lack of arty specialist, you will get some casualties. Supply and big map are your enemy than Norwegians.

Tronheim: You need to assign some FH 18s to your infantry rgts. Because of odd behavior of Norwegian unit, it's easy to capture Dombas. I send 2 infantries to Namsos and an infanty/mountaineer to south(this movement will cut enemy supply in Roros). I sent an infantry west of Fagerness to cut enemy's supply. Then follow the railroad and capture objects(and Olympic ticket). There will be a British unit in Andalsnes, so send your units to quickly capture it(Roros will need only one rgt). In Namsos, pour your airstrike in British bde and disrupt enemy's supply. Our bombers will deal with lone French unit. Don't forget to RETRIEVE your specialists!

French Campaign(now playing)
Low Countries: Air artillery is very useful. I used it to capture Eben-Emael. Use He 111s to assist capturing Rotterdam. I send infantries with artys to crack Dutch defensive line(with LSSAH) while most of my armored/motorized units to south. It can be hard to capture Mons in time. And be aware of French armored formations. They will hunt your weakened PzDs or infantries before sacrifice. Maybe you will need to use normal infantry divs as cannon fodder.

Sickle Stroke: Upgrade your panzers as best as you can. Infantries will keep your supply route. Dash your panzers to the sea. French armors will trying to damage your panzers-so watch out.

Dunkirk: Allied resistance is stiff, so be careful(my SS-VT get nearly destroyed). You won't defense Amiens, so don't keep it. Don't try to destroy every encircled units, let them lay down weapons to capture POWs. In my case, I quickly redeploy infantries between Dunkirk and Amiens while most of Panzers are moving to south. French armors will inflict casualties to your infantries, so I use 4-5 panzers to south(they have De Gaulle, we have Rommel). And attack French around Amiens/destroy Dunkirk pocket. Maybe you will be lucky enough to have 70 POWs.

Fall Rot West: Map is sooo huge, so you need to keep your supply lines. Even one-step unit will trying to cut off your supply route. Use oversupply to quickly capture enemy objects. Panzers need to capture empty object/cut supply while infantries to mop up French/keep supply route. If you capture Angouleme in time, you will get paratroopers, keep it until when you needed. It remind me 'Advance to Antwerpen'. 51st Highlanders were also breve, too.
(There's only 7. PzD unit, not 7th panzer/etc. I also have same problem about 7. PzD)

Fall Rot East: How to handle it? I'm stuck!

Etc
-Because of better stats of German units, I think combat itself was easier than original campaign. But it is offset by lack of specialists and huge map.
-Love newly designed units, especially French Somua tank. Also Gurkhas are added, to!
-Historically, four leichte divisions(LD) in scenario 'The Polish Plain' are reorganized as Panzer divisions(1. LD become 6.PzD). When I started 'Sickle Stroke', I noticed that some PzDs inherited its former LDs' experiences(if 1. LD has 215 exps in the last phase of 'The Polish Plain', 6.PzD will have 215 exps in the initial phase of 'Sickle Stroke'). Nice details.
-Noticed that there are Spanish units in game. Maybe next will be Operation Felix?
-Also noticed Yugoslav Partisan is cut.
-Are there some plans about stand alone Allied scenarios for Blitzkrieg DLC(maybe Battle of Arras & Abbeville, Battle of Pindus, Defense of Crete, etc...) It could be great fun!

I will come back after completing historical scenarios. Thanks for great DLC!

Sorry for late; I had exam 2 weeks ago, and finally I completed both route.

French Campaign
Fall Rot East: PzG Guderian will dash through Reims and capture objects(need to capture French tank's arrival point). Keep supply route around Mezieres so that panzers can rush enemy's behind. Also crack Maginot Line on weak places(SF Boulay and SF Sarre), then aim your infantries to capture Metz and Nancy. In Nancy, an nearly-elite Free Polish division(1 DIP with 290 exp) is garrisoned, so you will assign Arty/Engs to some 'shock' divisions. Move Army Group C HQ properly to cross the Rhine river.

Tannenbaum: Easy. You can capture Bern in turn 1~2 and Luzern in 4~5. Just don't let Swiss units disrupt your supply(sometimes they cross northern border). Resting scenario like 'Fortress Holland'.
And I noticed that Swiss units are stuck around border. They even don't try to retreat to their national fortress.
Balkans
Unternehmen 25: Supply is your enemy again. In turn 1, you should to reach around Zagreb to cut Yugoslav's supply(there are no Allies supply in north). Use Hungarians and Italians to mop up operations, then keep your supply line. MOVE Hungarian 3rd Army(MH3)'s HQ around Beograd; make pontoons to two German motorized to cross the River. Battle in Belgrade is quite easy(maybe put Yugoslav Guards in their Capital, like HMK Garde in Oslo). In south, move PzG Kleist to Sarajevo. Just keep your supply line.

Marita: You will drive your Panzers to Thessaloniki to Athens. With air support, you can also easily destroy Brits. Move some better Italians to capture Greek supply near Korce(Kicevo-Monastir-Florina-Greek supply). And advance your panzers to capture objects. You will get 2 or 3 air artillery cards. Keep them in your hands, because 'Merkur' is quite hard.

Merkur: Use airstrike and air artillery to crack Brits. You can capture Chania in turn 1. An Greek unit will guard Rethymno airfield while no enemy unit in west of city. If you are lucky, you also capture Rethymno. Heraklion will be defended by Greeks(city and airfleld), so you can also capture it. Don't forget to capture Sfakia. And then you can crash allies' resistance in few turn.

Alt-Historical route

France Campaign
Feint to Antwerp: 'Low Countries' without airbornes. Attack your Pzs to Antwerp. Infantries will deal with Liege Fortress. Assign some artys to infantries.

Fall Braun: HUGE. And one of great scenario(Lots of tanks to encircle enemies with Mass airborne attack). Like 'Fall Rot East', The main breakthrough is around Saarbruken and Metz. It can manage your Pzs in supply. Capture Mezieres to completely surround Maginot Line. Around Mulhouse, use pontoon to your units to encircle enemies around Basel. Swiss front is easier then 'Tannenbaum', Pzs and paras will deal with them.

Panzerschlacht Paris: PzG Kleist will run to Dieppe, but strong Allied tanks will trying to hunt your weak Pzs and infantries. Also they will always trying to cut your supply. Set Rearguard promptly and defend objects and hubs with 88mm equipped units. Not so easy. Maybe one of complicated scenario.

Fortress Brittany: Not so hard. Just be careful about Royal Navy.

Flanders Cauldron: Dunkirk without large enemies around Amiens. Le Havre can deal with some infantries. Force Belgians to surrender quickly, then you can advance your Pzs to nearly vacuum area. I think It is easier than original Dunkirk scenario.

Scandinavian Campaign
Unternehmen Tiger: Capture Visby island to get Parachute Rgt. Its better not to concentrate your units around Stockholm. Scatter them to quickly seize railroad. There are lots of Forrest, but in the middle there is an railroad to maintain supply; infantries will mop up Swedish. Pzs and Mountaineers will rush to capture objects. Move your HQ around Stockholm Quickly to build pontoon. Then capture Swedish Capital and capture other objects.

Telemark: Like 'Fall Braun', it is also huge, combined operation. Use airstrike(maybe an flying arty card will helpful) and paras around Stavanger to deny British reinforcement. Then move an para rgt to Kristiansand and create hub for paras. In land, dash to Oslo and Bergen/Lillehammer. Dalen-Amot has an cav, so don't capture it with starving unit.

Across the Scandes: Easy. Advance your vet/elite units to Bergen. There is an British unit north of Bergen.to destroy it, you will need river crossing attack. You can use an island NE of Bergen to destroy an lone Tommy. Dietl(3rd GEB) would be happy if he was there.

British Mainland Campaign
Seelowe: Surprisingly, it was very easy. I use 7.Para to capture River Medway. Empty Cliff of Dover was not Omaha beach; Rather it was an Operation Torch. Capture Brighton in turn 1 with Naval support. Then you will get rush of your vet/elite troop. Be careful of enemy tanks!

Battle of Britain: Hard time for Germans. Use rearguard to minimalize loss from British tank. Brits have veteran divs, but most of them are 5 step without specs. And you may have vet/elite units with specs. Just capture airfields. Battle in London was easy enough.

Midlands Blitz: Last scenario. Quickly breakthrough around Gloucester(Move AG A's HQ in turn 0) to your Pzs dash to enemy's rear. An GEB division is enough to capture Swansea. Cornwall will be easily captured by 2 mot and some infantries. Quickly advance Cambridge area to cut Norwich's supply. British has 4-5 tank units; some even use rearguard after attack. So after breakthrough around Gloucester, encircle main forces of Brits around Birmingham/Leicester. And then rush to Leeds and Liverpool.

etc
-I hope to add more milestones for alt-history scenario.
-You don't have enough specialties to attach entire units. Assign them to some vet/elite units as 'shock' units(like Canadian 1st in my Victory in the west scenario)
-How about adding harbor-to-harbor mechanism? In 'Unternehmen Tiger' or some scenario, It can be very useful(Visby to some port).
-Thanks to numbers indicating remaining scenario numbers, it's easy to retrieve specs(We say bye-bye to our elite 50th Northumbrian after 'Herbstnebel', but we can retrieve engs and funny tanks).
-Nice Balkan maps. Nice place to commit partisan warfare.
-I thought about adding Fortress in original campaign, but it's enough to have fortification level entrenchment. But it can be useful for future DLC(Leningrad, Tobruk)
-Can I expect HUGE scenario(entire France/Italian campaign and Europe 1944-45)? After playing large scenario. It can be nice to have full campaign level scenario.

It was great DLC. Thanks for developers and readers. 2020 was a great year for wargames. I hope to more contents for 2021(also eradication of Covid); maybe North Africa, or somewhere else.
Good bye, 2020.
