PvP: Operation Konrad (RT)

Spillblood once more volunteered to stand at the business end of some ridiculously overpowered Axis forces in Operation Konrad, the (in reality ill-fated) attempt to relieve besieged Budapest. Both Axis and Soviets start with some big mean armour divisions, with the blacks aiming to push back the front to the Danube, and the reds trying to make sure that doesn't happen.

The Axis forces are just too strong for the Soviet defense west of Budapest, cutting through them like a hot knife through butter. Spillblood desperately tried to expedite the fall of Budapest, but lacking enough units to do so he had to settle for awaiting the onslaught. I pushed my forces across the Danube on the second turn, capturing the bridgehead-objective as an aside, pulling out the battered SS Cavalry Division and putting a shiny panzer division in its place. My main problem at this point was a full Soviet infantry division, entrenched in the forests just next to my supply line. Containing it with my flimsy infantry, I started hammering away at the remaining Soviet tanks, losing only a few steps in the process. By turn 4, I managed to take the second objective.

The final two turns were just a mop-up of the remaining Soviets, and thanks to small map size, not only did I manage to wipe out every enemy unit, I also made the map colour blue.

Conclusion: unplayable as it is, but good for a laugh if you can convince a friend to play as the Soviets in a "totally fair" scenario.

In contrast to Zitadelle I've actually played this two or three times before, and each time the Germans had the upper hand (I tried both sides). Here's some more screenshots to illustrate Arctic's report.

The game code was 6MK8jC if you want to view the whole game (a neat feature of Unity of Command, all Multiplayer games can be viewed in full length if you have the game code).
