Hello,
loving the new DLC, except for the advance on Kiev scenario.
How is this one acomplished?
i have tried this so many times and i am just not able to take any objective w/o sacrificing all efforts on the other ones
my two complaints are:
not enough units are provided considering that one must go through some tough river crossing fights.
all the rail lines are on the map and i cant use them because there is no supply center that links them
its a fun scenario, but IMO the design is flawed, at least i should have access to those rail lines

Re: Red Turn: Advance on Kiev
Advance to Kiev is an interesting and challenging mission, as Supply is slower than the units.
Look to the furthest and most defended objectives, plan on how to be taking them within the time limit.
Supply is the key to UoC and UoC:RT.
Both of the supply sources - the single southern point and the western edge railway add a purpose and design choice to the map.
Play the scenario when pumping all the improvements into one of them, see how that goes.
Also if you are not getting good returns from the expenditure of your unit steps, look for alternative options. Arriving at the final objectives with 1-2-3 step units will be frustrating when they cannot hurt the enemy.

Re: Red Turn: Advance on Kiev
Very interesting scenario, I've achieved Brillant Victory after 3 tries and without spent points in the campaign. It's difficult but possible. One strategy : use only the source supply of the south, fix the north front with a light defense and launch the attack by the south with all armor units and infantry. All the objectives are easy to capture except the last one in the north. Speed is very important and the only way to obtain the BV.
If you still have problems with this scenario, send me a pm with your email, I will send you the files of my campaign in order you watch my strategy about this battle.

Re: Red Turn: Advance on Kiev
- Expand only the southern supply source
- Remove all specialist steps from the infantry screen north of the river. You only need about 4 infantry here - the Germans start pulling back immediately.
- Kanev bridgehead can and should be taken as early as turn 3. Put a bridge across the river immediately north of the confluence - this helps you envelop the German defenders of the objective to the north.
- Move as fast as you can to capture the forested stretch of the railway track towards the Road to Gomel as this is a bastard to crack if the Germans can get established there
- Don't be afraid to go OoS.
- It can be worth allowing the German reinforcements to appear at Kiev - better than having them show up in the north, and you have enough infantry to keep them on the other side of the river. Just don't forget they're coming.

Re: Red Turn: Advance on Kiev
ok, ive tried it another 5 times and am doing much better, and usually lost simply becasue i ran out ot turns, havent beaten it though. supply is no longer an issue thankfully. My limited armor access is the handicap i have to overcome now. ive been concentrating all 6 tank divisions on the southern front, but the thing that keeps tying me down is the objective directly east of kiev itself (the second from the south). the AI always puts up a great defense there, if i can knock it out quickly, taking the rest should be no problem. the arrival of three AI infantry divisions and one panzer division at turn 6 makes things tough as well.
at this point i really dont care about DVs or BVs i just want a regular victory

Have you tried sending 1-2 armour divs across a constructed bridge to the S of that objective? This allows you both to encircle the defenders and set up your own defensive line on the river to contain the German reinforcements.

Re: Red Turn: Advance on Kiev
I expanded the northern supply line and pushed a fair amount of forces north. It's imperative that the Germans aren't allowed to get a proper defensive line in between the woods en route to the north western objective. I also pushed in the south but only as supply would allow. Expandingthe northern supply means that by the end you are able to reach all objectives in supply. As such I did the objectives in a sort of reverse order to their BV turn limits.
Study the northern terrain as there are only a few corridors of clear terrain that you can/should use

OJK--it's a game, but it's a WAR game--and this scenario bears no resemblance to actual warfare, or anything close--it's a puzzle, as in "try to figure out the designer's mind for that ONE little trick that just might work." Plus, as always, the two sides are totally unbalanced--German units can damn near go halfway across the map whilst Russian units plod woefully along. This game needs a mod to make it FUN, as opposed to a final exam in accounting!
