Re: Suggestions Thread
One simple way to give the player some incentive to conserve his forces might be to require him, at least for a BV / DV, to meet the objectives on time AND hold them through the opponent's next turn. That's a great suggestion! I think this would be the most simple way to discourage players from jus...

Re: News?
Be lying if I said I was surprised, but excellent. The '41 campaign makes far more sense than the Soviet '43-'45 campaigns because UoC's most enjoyable with relatively low unit counts. Some of the later scenarios in RT the arbitrary stacking limit is more of an enemy than the Germans, many of your s...

Things I Learned From Playing Unity of Command
This game knocked my socks off - I have clocked more hours on it than anything comparable, to the extent it probably rivals grand strategic time sinks like Europa Universalis and Civ, which are supposed to take forever and a day to complete. However, every game has a thread like this and somebody ha...

I share in full the distaste for the immersion-breaking folly of, for example, burning several panze...

Re: Just like to say thanks
I have blown exactly 2 bridges: - The northermost one in 2nd Kharkov so the German infantry there could be withdrawn without the Soviets capturing Belgorod - One in Terek, constructed by me in the centre of the map to allow the forces there to cross the river, because the Red cavalry unit was sniffi...

Re: So..what's next???
A '41- early '42 Eastern Front expansion would be the blindlingly obvious one - the map (except for the Moscow area, Karelia and parts NE of Leningrad if they choose to include them) already exists, there is a solid basis for both an Axis and Soviet campaign - and the Axis campaign would follow a na...

Re: Easy Mode (Easy Mod?)
Another issue is the curious way difficulty levels are set in both instalments of the game. In RT, I think many would agree Korsun is BRUTAL but 'medium'. A chimp could win a BV in the Zhitomir scenario but that is also 'medium'. Obviously it's always going to be subjective but I find it easier just...

Re: Red Turn: Rovno - Korsun
Just won a DV at long last without spending any prestige. :) The scenario becomes much easier if you just accept you're not getting into Zhitomir until turn 5 and pass up any prestige from its capture. (Though it wouldn't have been a BV in this case even if I had taken Zhitomir on time, as I was a t...

Re: Red Turn: Rovno - Korsun
I finally managed to take Zhitomir on turn 3 after appalling carnage only for one of the German tank divs in the north to attack and displace my inf garrison in Korosten   I played on regardless but by the end of T5 none of the lads were within 2 hexes of Korsun and all were heavily a...

Re: Red Turn: Rovno - Korsun
The breakout m'learned friend Mein Poopenshaft has posted above there is about as well as I can do, too - and that's with some luck. But no matter how you cut it, there seems to be no way you can either get anything INTO Zhitomir or block off that monster SS unit to the south in order to prevent it ...
