Hi all,

I put together another short article, this time on combat. You can check it out on the blog.

Re: Stalingrad?

No, I got what you meant...

I am actually quite interested in what other campaigns people find interesting. I just don't want to make it seem like we can crank those out serially once Stalingrad Campaign is out.

Re: Stalingrad?

Yeah we can, and probably will, do other campaigns but it's not as trivial as it may seem. There's research to be done, units to be modeled, we'd have to update the map... Also the game as it is now does not support simply "dropping in a DLC" in any way. We would have to go through some su...

Re: Units

Air Units are a theater asset. You get a certain number of air attacks per turn and you can use them to attack anywhere on the map. While this means that you can use air strikes at some unrealistic places (e.g. deep behind enemy lines), the mechanic itself discourages such unrealistic use. Main effe...

Re: FoW

Heh, I managed to dig out an even earlier prototype. :) 1. There are HQ units on both sides 2. You can place small detachments within a certain range from HQ. They worked like a sort of beefed up zone-of-control. 3. The front line was a much more complicated affair, more like in the SSG system (Accr...

Re: Stalingrad reading list?

Hi Centy, I like this book too for overall narative. If you feel like delving deeper into the campaign, I recommend the books by David Glantz . Note however that they are really heavy on detail and facts. You might find them dry and difficult - I did at first - but the writing is really good and the...

Re: FoW

Right, there's no hidden unit state in UoC, nor partially hidden state for that matter. We dropped this mechanic for the same reason as FoW above. I agree with you that commanders on the EF often didn't know where the enemy units are. A lot of times they didn't even know where their own units are! W...

Re: Units

Specialist effects are quite varied. Tigers will give you an enormous armor "shift", but they are also vulnerable and you can easily lose them to enemy attack. This is because Tigers were really not ready for deployment in '42. You only get them after Stalingrad, when the situation gets de...

Re: FoW

Hi Jim, there's no fog of war. We felt it wouldn't work without presenting some sort of intelligence briefing to the player, and we couldn't find a nice and easy way to do that. The scenario list... I'd rather skip that for now, generate some suspense, eh? You can get some hints from the screenshots...
