A thing of beauty

Unread postby jurisnik » Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:26 pm

Hi all !

I've played 'Unity of Command', and played it a lot. My first impression is that it's a thing of beauty. Beautiful and clear graphic style and intuitive interface make for a well rounded product.

After all those gaming hours, I have several suggestions for future versions. You'll see that I've been inspired with some Panzer General concepts ;)

Here are couple of suggestions:
-core army - you have several elite units following you to other scenarios - this would make players more careful not to destroy their units just to get to that objective sooner
    - vehicle/gun/unit tree - I don't know would it work with specialist step concept, but I've always liked when I had a possibility to choose which vehicle/gun type to put into a unit
    - do you intend to provide gamers with campaign or scenario editor? - maybe that would create a rush of player-created scenarios and campaigns

Thanks for bearing with me. Greetings from Split :D

Thanks mate! I hope you guys are not giving up on Iron Cross, I'd love to see that game released :)

We will be releasing the scenario editor eventually but there's a lot of work still left just to make it "internally usable". For example, the current scenarios were more than 50% done by manually editing the files, really we modded our own game there

Alright Tom, good to hear that :D

I see you have really good framework set up there. And with that editor you (and your fans) will be able to expand those scenarios. Just keep it up, you have a solid base for new upgrades.

Meanwhile, couple of new ideas popped up to me:
    - weather (rain, snow) seems to affect the game too much - it reduces movement, logistics range and gives bonus to defender - how about reducing those effects a bit
    - armor units seem a bit too strong compared to infantry - I usually use armor to destroy enemy units, and use infantry only when faced with reduced units - you probably wanted to emphasize armor advantage in mobile warfare, but maybe it's a bit too emphasized

That's it, no more naggin' from me. I'm off to play your game some more ;)
Have fun,

You're right about the emphasis. When unsure about these things, I always try to err on the side of putting more emphasis (making things more "black and white" if you will). Armored units and mud effects are in fact both good examples of this.
