Rite of Passage... Crimea

Unread postby willgamer » Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:36 pm

Argueably, the single biggest difference to otherwise similar wargames is the "ZOCs do NOT extend across front lines" rule.

As such, acheiving a brilliant victory in the Crimea scenario, perhaps almost inadvertantly (see devs comments in the Cremea thread-
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=437), has become a sort of "crossing of the equator" mentally to learning a new style of play.

Since UoC also has an excellent replay feature  , I've attached my game to demonstrate that it can be done. Incidently, I suspect this replay feature could be used frequently in the future as an alternative to just screen shots to illustrate commentary.

I strongly encourage new players to hang in there with replaying Crimea until the "not your father's" ZOC rule is second nature. :geek:

Spoiler Alert: Duh! don't download and replay if you want to figure it out on you own....

I am still unable to duplicate your results, I can destroy kerch but never seem to have enough movement points to enter the city... it seems now that i am "learning how to play" i seem to be worse than before when playing the other scenarios I am so worried about securing supply lines that I fail to go after the objectives.

Remember that in the last 2 turns you pretty much can ignore supply lines (The worst that will happen is that you will be out of supply for one turn).

One thing that can trip this up is if any weather affects the hexes you're wanting to move into. In other words, mud can be a showstopper to any kind of quick victory.

The effect on the map for mud is subtle for my eyes, so I'm always needing to click the display icon or press "W".
